STYLE GUIDE FOR CAMPBELL COLLEGIATE
This style sheet is based on the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers (4th ed., 1995), the one generally followed in the Humanities. However, other style guides are used. You should always check with your instructor as to which style guide he/she prefers.
Use 21.5 cm X 28 cm (8.5" X 11") unlined white paper and write/word process on one side only. If you use a computer, use an easily readable typeface and a high quality printer. Handwritten work should be neat and legible and written in blue or black ink. Whether you are handwriting your paper or using a computer, double-space throughout, including quotations, notes, and the list of works cited. Do not leave an extra line between paragraphs and do not justify.
Number all pages consecutively throughout in the upper right-hand corner, approximately 1 cm or 1/2" from the top; your last name should appear before the number on each page. Do not use the abbreviation p. before a page number or any type of punctuation mark. You should have a 2.5 cm or 1" margin all the way around the paper.

A research paper does not need a title page. Instead, leaving a top margin of 2.5 cm, type your name, your teacher's name, the class name and number, and the date on separate lines flush with the left margin. Double space between lines. Double space again and centre your title. Your title should be in plain text (not bold) and the same size as the rest of the paper. The title should not be underlined, or put in quotation marks, or typed in capital letters. Double space between the title and the rest of the text. A sample first page appears on the next page.
Some instructors prefer to have a title page if the paper is longer than five pages. Centre your title in the middle of the page and type your name, the class name and number and the date in the bottom right hand corner. If you follow this method, you do not repeat the title of your paper on page one of your paper. A sample of a title page appears on page two of the style guide.
