The goal of the Learning Resource Program is to provide academic support that will enable students to complete the regular high school program.

Entrance Guidelines

Tutorial is intended for students with learning disabilities and for students with mild to moderate learning difficulties that have the ability to be successful in the regular program.  Students are recommended for Learning Resource by their classroom teacher or their elementary Learning Resource teacher.

Program Organization

Each student takes one less elective and substitutes it with a Tutorial.  Assistance is provided for one hour daily.  A credit is not granted for Tutorial.  However, a student could have Tutorial each semester throughout high school and still achieve the 24 credits required for graduation.

How the Program Works:

Tutorial helps students "get/stay organized".  The focus is:

  • daily agenda/binder monitoring
  • direct teaching of learning strategies, study skills, test taking strategies, and organization skills
  • small group instruction in subject areas
  • access to computers
  • assistance proofreading
  • opportunity to write tests in low stress environment
  • communication between student, classroom teachers, LRT, and home
  • monitoring of student progress
  • assistance in choosing classes

Student Expectations:

  • attend regularly and be punctual
  • come with required materials to work on class assignments
  • manage and use time productively
  • keep a detailed, up to date agenda and maintain an organized binder
  • commit to improving grades and doing one's best
  • complete unfinished assignments at home
  • show respect for self and for others
  • improve self-advocacy skills
  • work toward academic independence

Parent Expectations:

Parents can help their children be successful in school by showing interest and by being supportive.  Some ways to do this are:

  • Provide a home environment that will enhance learning
  • Check agenda daily
  • Ask about and discuss school
  • Contact the school about any educational concerns
